ILL SEE YOU NEVER

[around] 6 months and 70 posts later its time to say my good byes. When I started blogging I really didnt think I would get this far. I thought my blog would remain one of the many that are floating around like one of IT's corpses in space. You proved me wrong and I proved my self wrong.

It was good to see that I can stick with something till I succeed with the goals I set. My first goal was to get someone to comment. It took a little while but it happened :) My overall goal for my blog had always been to get into the blog pack and again it took a while but it happened. Thanks to everyone that commented and read my posts, it made it all worth while.

I will leave this blog up seeing as Its not costing me anything and so people can read the old posts if they want. It was fun writing this blog and even if I didnt end up in the blog pack or get readers and comments it still would have been worth it to improve my writing.

The reason I am going to stop playing EVE (and therefore blogging about it) is real life. The next three years will be hectic and I probably wont have much of a life (that sucks). This year I am in year 10 (I am 15 years old) and school just started to get serious so I can definitely expect 11 and 12 to be worse. So I am going to try my hardest to get my real life goals like I did with eve and blogging and hopefully come out the other side a pilot!

Before I go I just want to give a shout out to laedy in red for being awesome. She is a fellow Australian and has a great blog over athttp://laedyinred.blogspot.com/  so go check that out!

Oh and in case you were wondering my average monthly page views was around 5,000. My most viewed post was the minmatar desktop background that I made. The top referring site was crazy kinux's then google. and Most of my viewers were from the US followed by Australia :D

Fiction #2 - testing

I forgot to introduce my new series last time. So that's what I'm doing now. This is the second post in a new series of fictional posts I will be writing. Each post will just contain a snippet of the overall story. I hope you enjoy them! Oh and don't worry, the story doesn't stay on the ground ;)

[PICTURE TO COME - STILL DRAWING IT]

My pod had closed around me and I took my last breath in total darkness as the pod goo rose up slowly around me. That breath would be my last... unless I won...

Suddenly I could see again, but not through my eyes.I could sense what was happening somehow and I could see what was around me but the images were going straight into my brain.

In front of me was the same large holoscreen that had been there before and to the sides were the other contestants. There was just one difference. They were in some kind of robotic armour now.

The holoscreen lit up and the game masters face appeared. "Welcome to the first ever championship game. You are the lucky ones to have been chosen. Your suits are controlled via your brain waves. Think what you want to do and your suit will react in the appropriate manner. You have one hour to practice before the game begins!"

It was difficult to think of your legs moving without actually moving them. I thought of gingerly placing one foot in front of me and was rewarded with a resonating boom as my right foot slammed into the metal floor. Receivers placed all over the suit sent their pain signals to my brain and my brain transmitted that to my body. It felt like I had snapped my leg and the shock from not knowing what was coming made it even worse.

That technology came from the ammarian torturers for sure. They were famous for their endless supply of pain.

Just then I saw a door open at the far end of the vast hangar. What looked like a scientist walked in but from this distance it was hard to make out. Then with lightning speed my vision tunneled, then re-focussed a few millimeters from the scientists face. He could do with a shave, I noted. Then I realized what had happened without me even thinking. Or had I? Maybe subconscious commands worked better than conscious ones.

This could actually be fun I thought.

Blog Banter #25 - Crappy mechanics

Welcome to the twenty-fifth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week or so to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed to crazykinux@gmail.com. Check for other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

This month's topic comes to us from @Tetraetc - "Tetra's EVE Blog" - who asks: "Have Alliances and the sovereignty system limited the amount of PVP and RP potential in Null sec? Imagine a Null Sec where anyone could build outposts wherever. Would the reduction of the alliance game mechanic, and the removal of the sovereignty game mechanics (or the modifcation of it from Alliance level to Corp level for that matter) force more PVP into Null sec, or would giant power blocs like the NC still form themselves?"

I'm not sure if a change in the sov mechanics would definitely increase pvp but I do know one thing. Sov warfare is a bloody waste of time. Only large capital fleets get the job done fast otherwise its a bitch and guess who can afford cap fleets? Large alliances and power blocks.

So if the whole alliance mechanic got removed but sov mechanics stayed then I doubt corps could afford the large cap fleets. This would result in large bs fleets roaming around to kill sov structures which would increase pvp because they can't just cyno in like cap fleets.

If it was the other way around and the sov mechanics were taken out I would guess more pvp would occur but that's just a guess. if you were "able" to setup a station in someone else's system it would need to be onlined so there would likely be huge battles caused by that.

If both mechanics were removed I would say there would be a mixture of both angles that I have stated. One difference being, if the corps can't fund capital fleets they will probably think twice before putting up a station in someone else's system because they cost an arm an a leg. This may stop people from setting up stations and have more gang / skirmish warfare which would be cool.

All in all I think removing these mechanics would increase pvp but I don't think they should be removed. They definitely need some tweaking though.

ps. sorry if this looks like a rush job. Its hard to write long things on my phone ;)

Fortnightly Photo - #7 - Drink Flying™

Drink Flying, brought to you by the Guristas Pirates.
You can click the image for a larger (900x700) version... It was too big to fit in here...

Ive been a bit slack with the whole Fortnightly Photo™ series, mainly due to not much time but also because I just couldn't think of anything to make! I thought I should make something nice for you all seeing as ill be away for the weekend (going gliding again :D) and I finally came up with this idea and through it together in a couple of hours.

The part that took the most time was making the beer pooring out of the bottle. Its cool, I learn a new technique every time I make something for my blog :) Hope you like it!

Update #13 - Enlarged Char portrait

First off, if you didnt know, you can now mouse over anyone's portrait on eve gate and click the little magnifying glass symbol to get an enlarged version which is quite nice. Below is how big it comes out, which i think is around 512x512 or something near that.

Also Im impressed with the new contract system. I have to admit that it does have a few bugs or anoying thing but hey, its a beta. I havnt checked out all its new features but one thing i like is that pop-up box has gone away where you had to select what exact item you were wanting.

Anyway thats really all for today. There hasn't been many Dev blogs or much news floating around. if you have something interesting be sure to let me know :)

PL Has good tactics

So we were shooting a POS with a JF on standby ready to haul our goodies to safety. This faction loot, worth around 2bill would help fund and setup our new home. There was only one problem... PL had their own idea...

After an hour - ish of pos bashing the tower was finally in low structure and the a cyno was going to be lit in the next few minutes when all of a sudden 5 PL dramiels and a heretic come into system.

We are already off grid by now because we weren't sure what ships they were in but on seeing the dramiels and heretic we turned around and tried to catch them. Now Im sure dramiels are fun to fly when you are the pilot but they are pesky little things when you dont have any fast tackle and your all in slow drakes. They are like bloody flies buzzing around you! They kept nipping in and out so fast there was no chance of catching them so we warp out once again.

This time we get a good warp in on them and I am licking my lips in anticipation of the coming fist fight. We all land on grid and in a mad rush of control clicking I lock everyone up and start shooting. We have points on multiple ships and its looking good as we lay waste to a hound, and then...

You guessed IT! PL uses their favorite tactic and drops several capital ships on us (and most likely a lot more on standby) and the heretics bubble goes up.

This was not at all unexpected, we just thought we could kill a few of them and bug out before they did hot drop us but unfortunately 4 or so of our drakes died and PL ran off with the pos mods and shot the stuff they didnt want. Nice tactics :) I congratulate them on a job well done even if it didnt have the best outcome for us.

Dont drink fly!

CCP = the wind - Response

If is strictly is to draw in new players so that a new player has an idea of how things function in eve, excellent, but SAY so.

Once we know WHY something is being done, we can connect the pieces together, and develop a cohesive "this is why CCP is doing this"

I am 1/4 excited and 3/4 worrying about Incarna. Being able to get out of my ship and take a walk around in my captains quarters, involving a couple of rooms that dont do much at all wont be that fun or accomplish anything. The possibilities for future expansions, however will be numerous. So numerous that I am thinking, where the hell are you going with this CCP?

We could be able to customize the rooms, our characters, build shops (brothel?), play mini games, out of pod pve / pvp ect. ect. What I am worried about is that it will be a bit of a flop like PI was at first or worse, be so good that nobody plays internet spaceships anymore.

If CCP doesnt have an end goal with this then I can definitely see why they are telling us shit all... Like the dev blog they just posted with a few pictures and a couple of scribbled down notes on a napkin.

If they do have a goal though, why not share it? This is such a big change from any other expansion after all so why not tell your faithful users whats happening on that little icy island. The worst that could happen is you get some player feedback about what will be accepted or rejected.

Its just a thought...

ps. I wasnt only talking about incarna...

FICTION: Preparation

I am standing, the faint glow of the holo-screen in front of me softly touching my face. On all sides of me are other contestants, standing, nervously waiting for the contest to begin.  I am sweating now. If I didn't do this I would have ended up like my family, I try to reason with myself. My family are already enslaved by the amarrian off-worlders who will work them to do death. My jaw sets as I imagine the things i will do to them when I find them.

A bell rings out, signaling that we are about to start and bringing me out of my fantasy. A metal cage lowers itself slowly from the ceiling and i try not to move as wires are attached to me and the gaming apparatus is put into place.  A drop of sweat slowly finds its way down my furrowed brow then teeters on the end of my nose, about to take its final journey, plummeting to the little pool of sweat that has collected underneath me. I wish my existence was as simple as one of those molecules. But then again, in a way they are also prisoners like me.

Soon I am completely wired up and the last piece of equipment closes in slowly. It is egg shaped from the outside, a capsuleer would know it as a pod. This is a pod that has been adapted for use outside of spaceships, specifically designed for brutal games. Suddenly my vision flickers and dims to blackness as the pod seals with a hiss. A liquid starts running over me, I think it is sweat but it is really pod goo. This is it, I think as I take a deep breath. My last breath, unless I win...

Update #12 - Beetles...

...and bugs

The past releases, Team Best Friends Forever has been working on large features, our latest being Incursions. Next release will be different though; next release we'll be trying to track down all the small things that annoy you and working to correct them.
I am really excited about this update. It fixes a lot of small stuff that was getting on my nerves. Heres a brief overview of the upcoming bug fixes and changes.

Incursion 1.2  15th February 2011
Remote Destruction of Jump Clones
Remote authorization has been added, allowing players to dispose of unwanted or unneeded jumpclones directly from the character sheet.
Improvements to Buying a New Clone
When buying a new clone, options with insufficient skillpoints will be grayed out as a warning.
Region & Security Status Displayed When Buying a Clone
When moving your active clone to another station, the list of possible destinations will contain the region and security status.
Sell/Buy Window Settings
The state of your sell window (normal/advanced) will persist (remember your last used setting) on a character basis.
Market Window Displays Outpost Information
Market orders in player-owned outposts will now display the system name as well as the station name on the order.
Asset Search by Distance
Your assets list can now be sorted by number of jumps so that you can easily view your proximity to locally stored assets.
Drag and Drop Into Closed Containers
You can now drag and drop items into closed containers without having to open them first.
Character Portrait Saves Return
Say "Cheese!" It is now again possible to capture portraits of characters in-game.
Improved Overview Settings
Priority modification in Overview settings now has drag and drop functionality.
Agent Removal Confirmation
To safeguard against accidental removal of needed agents, a new confirmation message has been added which pops up when players attempt to remove one.
Starmap Autopilot's Tab Now Easier to Adjust
The 'Autopilot' tab in the Starmap now has drag and drop functionality for sorting waypoints.
Clearing All Waypoints from Space
A new right-click menu item has been added to the route label in space, so it is now possible to clear all waypoints without opening the Starmap.

The ones I am most looking forward to are as follows. Remote jump clone removal, clearing way points from space and also the changes to the autopilot tab. With these i will finally be able to delete some clones that are locked away in hostile space, not have to waste time hitting f10, waiting for the map to load then right clicking to clear my waypoint and planning waypoints will also be a breeze! what are you looking forward to?

Also one last thing. A quote from a recent devblog about incarna:
we're happy to say that we're coming to a place where we can begin dialogue about actual features and gameplay that's been in development. We’ll kick it off with a blog from the team working on captains quarters next week that should lead quite nicely into several presentations at Fanfest
This is so exciting! It will be pretty sweet if you can customize your quarters ect. It will just be something cool to tinker around with on a rainy day :)

New corp. New play style.

I wanted to wait till I got my first kill with my new corp till I posted this but a lot of real life stuff has got in the way (homework mainly). So I had to settle for posting it after I killed an ihub. Killing the ihub wasn't all that fun but it was good to get out there with some corp / alliance guys and get something worthwhile done.

So the new corp I joined is called psykotic meat (PKME) which is part of convicted alliance. Pkme is an Australian timezone pvp corp part of an Australian timezone pvp alliance :)

I joined pkme around a week ago now and it has been great fun. I am really enjoying the new play style even though I haven't killed much yet. I'm sure that will change soon though :)

Now onto the part about corp size.So as I said in my other post about corp sizes and all that I dont like Large corps. I dislike massive corps because they very impersonal, sort of cold, like a big machine just grinding for the benefit of the overlord so I thought that maybe a tiny corp would be better. well it wasn't. I think perhaps I rushed into the decision of joining my last corp and it didnt end up be a very good one. Not many people were on and there were a few other reasons that i wont go into. That experience made me spend a lot more time picking my next corp. I probably thought about it for a week or so before finally deciding on PKME.

So far PKME seems to be the perfect size. The guys in it and the alliance are good fun and the corp / alliance (which I cant tell you) are really exciting :D

The future looks good. What does your future hold?

Part of the Blog Pack!

So I logged onto my computer after an average day at school. Checked my emails, didnt see anything exciting. I changed some skill queue stuff on my different characters. Entered a few free lotteries then didnt have much to do... So I checked my emails again. Omg! There was a very exciting mail waiting for me indeed! heres what it said;

@CrazyKinux commented on Theres this thing called life... - http://captainserenity.blogspot.com/:

Welcome to the EVE Blog Pack. If you could write a little something about it, I'd appreciate! Cheers!
What! I read it again then jumped for joy and high fived the air beside me (maybe i should have kept that part to myself) I was actually in the blog pack!

My goal when I started writing random stuff that nobody was reading on my blog was to get into the blog pack. I though If i made in there then at least a few people would read my blog. To my amazement a few people have already been reading it and your continued supportive comments are really appreciated! Seriously its actually an awesome feeling when someone says they like what you wrote or made ect.

So stick around more stories, tips & tricks and randomness that I post. Hope you like it :)

Trading - its not as fun as i thought.

Ok so yeah i did make a bit of money off trading. I turned 50 mill into over 150mill. But what i have figured out is all that small profit margin trading stuff is of the queer persuasion. I like the solid deals where i can buy something and turn straight back around and sell it. for more.

I recently fond a great set of trade systems. In on the raven was selling for pretty low price. In the other the raven was selling for a lot higher price. The beauty of this spot is that the two systems are in different regions so you cant see that you are getting ripped off without doing a bit of research.

So i bought a couple of ravens, made the 5 jumps necessary to get to the other system, put up a sell order and bam! I had made over 15mill per ship :D

I am going to stop doing the small margin trading stuff and only do some trading when I find a good deal like this one. Its funny, a lot of isk can be made from people too lazy to travel a few jumps to get something cheaper.

Ok so here are the skills you should train up if you are going to get right into trading.

Marketing  allows to setup remote sell orders.
Procurement allows to setup remote buy orders
Daytrading  allows to change orders remotely
Visibility  increases maximal effective range of buy orders

The ranges for the above 4 skills:
  • level 0: limited to current station
  • level 1: anywhere within current solar system
  • level 2: 5 jumps
  • level 3: 10 jumps
  • level 4: 20 jumps
  • level 5: entire region
Trade +4 additional orders per level.
Retail +8 additional orders per level.
Wholesale +16 additional orders per level.
Tycoon +32 additional orders per level.

max = 305 order

Accounting reduces default tax rate for 10% per level from 1% to 0.5% at level 5
Broker Relations  reduces broker fee for 5% per level from 1% to 0.75% at level 5
Margin Tradingdecreases amount of ISK you have to place in buy orders. values are:
  • level 0: 100%
  • level 1: 75%
  • level 2: 56.25%
  • level 3: 42.18%
  • level 4: 31.64%
  • level 5: 23.73%

Good luck with your trading!

Theres this thing called life...

I havnt posted in a little while, oops! This thing called life got in the way of playing eve or posting. I dont usually post about my real life but I thought I would just share this part seeing as its the reason I didnt post and it is very exciting (for me at least :D)

I went away for 2 days to bathurst soaring club (in case anyone knows it) and started learning to fly a glider.

It has always been my dream to have a career in aviation and be some type of pilot whether it be a helicopter pilot or commercial pilot I wouldn't mind.

I recently found out that my hours in the glider will go towards my powered plane hours as so it is a great hobby for me to take up. I will be going up there every second weekend and hopefully go solo soon!

The other thing taking up my time was going into year 10. It is an important year for me because I need to do well to get into the selective school I want to go to so I decided to set up good habits and do all my homework ect. fun :)

I can also learn to drive (a car) in about a month so I will be able to drive up to the gliding club and back which is 3 hours away and get my gliding hours and driving hours up at the same time :D

Sorry If this bores you. Back to eve next time.

Also this video is of some gliding aerobatics, in case you dont know what gliding is, or if you want to see some cool shiz lol

Rifter Rampage #2 - starting to crawl

My rifter alt is coming along very nicely and it looks like it will only take a few more days till he is complete and i can go back to training my serenity. I started training him on the 22/1/2011 so this is day 4 and I have almost trained everything. I might even be able to fit it out in under a week :)

ISK SPENT:
Propulsion jamming
jury rigging
Afterburner
New clone

Total Spent: 1,701,899

SKILLS
trained since last post:
hull upgrades - 4
gunnery - 4
jury rigging -1
repair systems - 3
motion prediction - 3
Small projectile turret - 3
Weapon upgrades - 3
Navigation - 2
Afterburner - 1

To Train for next post:
afterburner 4
propulsion jamming 2
weapon upgrades 4
small projectile turret 5

Say goodbye to hulk alt

So after 7 ish months of training and a lot of station spinning, my hulk alt with 9.2mill sp finally sold. I am actually so happy. I hated mining so much that in those 7 long months I only went out mining about 3 times lol. I know I would have made a lot more isk if i had mined for the whole time and then sold the char but it was just to boring for me. Hopefully she has gone to someone who will take care of her...

So here is the maths:

21 free days (free)
Plex (free because of buddy program)
6 * Plex (say 350mill average each) = 2.1 bill
100mill for skill books and implants

total spent: 2.2bill
Character sold for 3bill So i made about 800mill \o/

I am happy with that. Till next time o/,

Update #11 - CSM

With Council of Stellar Management due to leave office on April 6th, it's almost time for the candidacy period for CSM6 to open up. The dates for the next election period are as follows:

  • February 9th to 23rd – Candidacy application period opens
  • March 2nd – Publication of the list of approved candidates
  • March 9th – Voting opens
  • March 23rd – Voting closes
  • March 30th – Results announced
  • April 6th – CSM 6 takes office
  • April 2012 – CSM 7 takes office
When applying for candidacy in CSM6, we will require that at least a basic campaign message stating what you are campaigning for and/or who you are representing is provided.

So there are only a couple of changes to the CSM application process. you will now need to provide a message stating what you are campaigning for and who you represent. this will make it easier for voters to identify the candidates. The other change is to with the schedule and will result in a reduction of the amount of time between the publication of the list of approved candidates and the beginning of the voting period.

If you have not already tried the new PI interface (which is quite different) this guide will get you up and running in no time at all.

In other news, the corp i just joined is at war in high sec. Pretty much what happened was the alliance didnt want our corp in the alliance any more but never kicked us. the alliance was falling apart so Merciless reckoning asked our CEO to form a new alliance with them. We agreed. Our CEO sent over 350mill to start the alliance and left the previous alliance. As soon as we had left, Merciless reckoning declared war on us. Most of our players aren't that experienced at pvp however the people who war decced us are. Isnt that great :)

What I wonder is, were merciless reckoning ever going to form a new allaince with us or had they planned that as a way to get our isk and kick us out at the same time. Also one of our players killed one of them and then they were bitching about it. So maybe they thought since we were mostly care bears they could steel our isk, kick us out and get some easy kills.

Fly safe, Dont war dec people for no reason.

Rifter Rampage #1 - In The Beginning

In The Beginning...

 ...I created an alt.

Mysterious Alt

I have decided to make one of the characters on my main account into a solo PVP alt. His name will remain unknown but I am going to post every few days about how he is going. I will include a record of how much isk I spend and the skills I train. I am calling this series of posts Rifter Rampage because the first solo ship I am going to learn to use (and train for) will be a rifter. Below is the fitting I am going off, so I know what skills I need to train.

I have given the character 15mill which I am going to make last for as long as possible. I am going to try and spend as little as possible the whole time and see how much isk it costs and how long it takes to train a character to be able to pilot a rifter properly.

ISK SPENT:
minmatar frigate - 36 000
small projectile turret - 18 000
motion prediction - 54 000
mechanic - 18 000
hull upgrades - 54 000
repair systems - 27 000
weapon upgrades - 70 000

Total: 277 000

That should do us till next time.

SKILLS
trained since last post (I started training at 8pm on the 22/1/2011):

minmatar frigate - 3
mechanic - 3
hull upgrades - 3
gunnery -3

To Train for next post:
hull upgrades - 4
repair systems - 3
small projectile turret - 2
motion prediction - 2
+ whatever else I can fit in

Update #10 - Character recustomization

The Future

We will be introducing the ability to repeatedly recustomize characters in a future release. The current plan is to introduce this at the same time as we release tattoos, scars and piercings so players can take advantage of these new assets. We are still in the early design phase, so we don't have any more details at present. Expect a devblog explaining more in the coming weeks.
Incursion 1.1.1 addresses several issues and updates to Incursion 1.1.0 and includes the ability to redo ones' portrait in the character creator

So after tonight's update we will be able to customize our characters further but not from scratch (I think). I am not completely sure but it sounds as if we will start from what we have already done and make changes from there. If this is the case I think I will try to smooth out some of serenity's frown lines lol.

In other news some new security measures against phishing attacks will be put into place. All the details are here if your interested at all.

New Year, New Me

These are three of my characters and their new looks. Man im loving the character creator, you can do virtually ANYTHING. The only thing I didnt like about it was the fact that the character kept moving his head around and changing expressions ect. which made it a bit harder to model.

The top character is serenity one, my main (his original picture cna be seen at the bottom of this post). Then there is an alt that I use for not much. Sometimes I move some stuff around with her. She looks pretty nice :)

And last but not least is a new character that I created specifically for solo, piraty pvp. So yes im going to start training him for a rifter most likely and hit the low sec systems. If you know of any aussie pirate corps please let me know. It shouldnt be a problem the character not being my main because I dont pvp much with my main or anything.

Also now on the topic of alts, my mining alt that will be for sale in 10 days can be seen here on eveboard. You will be able to design the character as you see fit because of the new character creator so I will expect a little bit more isk because of that. If your interested, comment below or contact me in game via my main (serenity one) and we can talk price and all of that stuff.

Fly safe,
Captain serenity.

Kill That Carrier

Since Kirith announced the event I had planned on going in with a couple of corp mates activating a full rack of smart bombs and trying to damage as many people as possible (including kirith). We were all going to fly in and do something like this:

So I log on two hours before the event and corp chat is empty. great... the Ninveah channel says there is an attackers channel and a defenders channel already set up so since I dont have anyone to talk to I pop over to them and say hello in both. I get an immediate response in the defenders channel and no response from the attackers for quite some time so I decide it would be wise to become a defender.

With an hour to go I head over to Teshkat in my pvp drake, Spanking Machine |, and a few of us go in together, meeting the rest of the defense fleet outside the station. Everyone practices targeting BC'ed targets and some other stuff then the time comes and we all warp to kirith.

Following this is a mad killing frenzy which I missed out on a bit because Eve voice kept kicking me out and I couldn't hear any orders lol. I managed to get on two kill mails in that time then the FC broadcast a NOIR. guy (noir. were also defending kirith) who I locked up and shot at. immediately after that Noir. locked me up and killed me. I was pretty annoyed but now I understand it had been a misunderstanding that had been resolved but I hadnt heard it because Eve voice had yet again decided to kick me out!

I warp around for 15mins waiting off my GCC then finally when its finished I run to the nearest system that is selling a drake and some missiles. I reconnected to voice comms then and heard that Noir. and our fleet had won and we could now attack kirith. I quickly bought a drake, 7 heavy missile launchers and 5k scourge fury heavy missiles and got back as fast as I could. Unfortunately this was not fast enough and someone yelled "I see hull damage!" just as I was jumping in. I warped to the FC and sure enough Kirith's chimera and his pod were already dead.

That didnt really bother me too much though because some other people (not sure who they were?) started locking us up and we killed em :) I got on 2 more killmails before their reinforcements arrived and I just warped out with 4% hull left. feww the Spanking Machine || survived!

EDIT: here is the finished video of the night, made by kirith: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1101/BMTHOKK.wmv

Thanks Kirith, That was awesome fun!

Update #9 - Three Days Till Liftoff

Incursion will lift off on the 18th of jan, three days from now. There are a lot of features I am excited about but im just going to write about the main few here.

The character creator as seen at the top ^ will become available on TQ and we get to re-do all our characters!! I am particularly excited about this because I created my character when I was 11 years old and didnt do a very good job lol :)

heads up for all our players; you will have to recreate your character portrait using the new character creator after it has been deployed. This means that your old character portrait will not be accessible anymore! If you want to preserve the old character portrait in high resolution, you should log into the game and use the capture portrait option while it still exists.

Obviously Incursion will bring us the Sansha PVE content which should be awesome! In this we get to battle off the nasty, spiky buggers below:

This release will also update the contracts sysetm which I wrote about in a previous update post.

Then we come to Eve Gate updates (Which wont be released for a while but I wanted to talk about it anyway). When eve gate was released it acted just like a fat kid on the ten metre diving board; it did an immense belly flop and didnt come up for a while. Till now in fact. CCP will be changing the current Eve online forums to an archived version and will be starting the new forums over on Eve gate from scratch (no posts copied from the current forums). Some kewl stuff they have added includes a sleek design:

Front page

The ability to "like" posts will also be available. The running total of likes received and likes given will be shown under your avatar. Each post will also have a share button and favorites button allowing you to share it with the world outside of Eve gate and "Fave" threads which will make them easily accessible at a later date. There will be an RSS feed for every channel and thread so you can keep up to date on your threads from your favorite feed reader!

Above you should be able to see the new search that will come with the forums. This is particularly good because the current search is way on bad side of things. You will be able to do much more powerful search's and even bookmark your search criteria for later as well as be able to subscribe to an RSS feed of your search criteria so you can see any new threads popping up that may interest you.

Cant wait for all this stuff!

blog banter #24 - Personalities

Welcome to the twenty-fourth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux.

This month's Banter topic comes to us from the ever helpful Eelis Kiy, capsuleer behind the "Where the frack is my ship" blog. She asks: How does your real life personality compare to who you are as a character in EVE? Does a good leader of people in the real world make a good leader of pilots in game? Or vice-versa? Do your real-life skills help you with the roles you fulfill in your corporation or alliance? Or do you behave completely differently? Does the anonymity of the Internet allow you to thrive on the tears of others in New Eden whilst you work as a good Samaritan away from your keyboard? Or are you as mean outside of your pod as you are inside it? Have experiences in EVE Online affected your behavior, skills or attitudes outside of the game?

I would say that my personality In / out of game is quite similar. I use some of the skills I have out of game when the need arises. There are definitely some differences in personality though, not showing themselves all the time but they do pop their heads up in different circumstances.

So lets go a little deeper. The main part of my personality is the same (is there a main part?) both in and out of game. The anonymity does not get to my head where I think I can do anything just because no one knows who really am. I try to be nice to most people but because of this anonymity and the fact that they could just be pretending to be something and then stab you in the back (a classic case would be stealing out of a pos once trust has been established) I am always a bit more hostile towards people in the beginning (Although now that I think about it I probably am a bit like that in real life, tending to be a bit guarded towards neutrals. I mean.. poeple I dont really know yet.) before I have played with them for a while and got to know them better. They may not be like that in the real world or they may actually be nice in general but you can never really tell and someone may change in  an instant.

Do your real-life skills help you with the roles you fulfill in your corporation or alliance?

Now I dont use my out of game skills for the positions I am in within eve or to help other people but I use things that I am good to get ahead. e.g. Im pretty good at maths so I can quickly calculate things if need be and I have fairly good problem skills so I can find a solution to most situations I find myself. Those are types of skills I use in game, not the actual skills I have from my out of game job and not for a role within eve.

So the differences are, I am a bit more hostile towards strangers, If someone does something bad to me I will find them and kill them, which I dont do in real life (I heard it was illegal or something too).
I also did an (very old) Eve personality test and got the result below:

Industrialist with teeth

Its a close fit, if only it said carebear...

New Look

How do you like the new look? I only changed around a few things but I like it much, much better than before. Its not as cluttered so its more appealing to the eye.

The other thing I changed is the header image of the blog to better suit the blogs name and what I do in game. For those of you reading this via a feed reader you will either have to click THIS link, or if your to lazy to do that I uploaded the image for you below although to see it in all its glory you will really have to bight the bullet and click that link :)

This is the new header image.
So if you would like to give feed back on the design of the blog and the header image that I made feel free to in the comment section below.

Mac fitting tool!

A while back I wrote something about getting a fitting tool ingame because of the lack of one on a mac platform and also because it just be awesome!

I come today with good news. For mac users you can finally test your own fittings out of game with this new fitting tool called Pyfa! Pyfa looks really nice and works like a charm so if your a mac user or maybe a pc user that just wants to try it out go here.

The really cool thing about Pyfa is its graphs. You can compare the DPS of two different ship fittings easily and efficiently. Take for example the image below comparing a HAML drake to a HML drake.

With this new tool you can settle the argument of whether your better off having HAML's or HML's on a pvp drake once and for all by putting in the distance you will be from the target (I put in 0-100km) and if you want to get really specific and see which setup will be better against what sized ships you can by putting in the sig radius and some other information.

Carrier kill mail

Who wants a carrier kill mail? mmhmm, well read the following, quoted from the Inner Sanctum of the Ninveah:

When: Jan 17th, 9pm EST (0200 eve time on Jan 18th)

What: Chimera on a planet or belt in a low sec system (to be announced on Jan 10th) for at least 30 minutes or until dead.

Why: Celebrating 6 years of blogging and upcoming 2000 posts

Who: You and anyone else that shows up.

How: I'll warp to a celestial (no station or gate) in a system to be announced next week and tell everyone in local and the Ninveah channel where I am. Then they can come to shoot or support me. I will fight back but will not warp away for 30 minutes.

So get your shit together while there's time. Get your corp mates into a fleet and go smash this chimera!!!

Update #8 - T-shirts

My Jinx t-shirt design

Missed the Boss Fight test on December 17? Get on the test server on January 3 at 15:00 UTC and you will have another chance to try it out.

The final vote for the "create a start ship contest" is happening now. Head over to the voting page and choose your favorite three entries. The winning entry will be added to the game sometime in the future so make sure you vote for a ship that you would fly!

If you like voting you should also head over to the Jinx voting page where artists and enthusiasts have designed eve related t-shits.  I myself posted a design here.  I only found the comp the day it was closing so made this is about 3 hours. It would be great if you voted for it though :)

Last but not least, the contract system is finally getting some love. Read the dev blog on the subject here.
