New corp. New play style.

I wanted to wait till I got my first kill with my new corp till I posted this but a lot of real life stuff has got in the way (homework mainly). So I had to settle for posting it after I killed an ihub. Killing the ihub wasn't all that fun but it was good to get out there with some corp / alliance guys and get something worthwhile done.

So the new corp I joined is called psykotic meat (PKME) which is part of convicted alliance. Pkme is an Australian timezone pvp corp part of an Australian timezone pvp alliance :)

I joined pkme around a week ago now and it has been great fun. I am really enjoying the new play style even though I haven't killed much yet. I'm sure that will change soon though :)

Now onto the part about corp size.So as I said in my other post about corp sizes and all that I dont like Large corps. I dislike massive corps because they very impersonal, sort of cold, like a big machine just grinding for the benefit of the overlord so I thought that maybe a tiny corp would be better. well it wasn't. I think perhaps I rushed into the decision of joining my last corp and it didnt end up be a very good one. Not many people were on and there were a few other reasons that i wont go into. That experience made me spend a lot more time picking my next corp. I probably thought about it for a week or so before finally deciding on PKME.

So far PKME seems to be the perfect size. The guys in it and the alliance are good fun and the corp / alliance (which I cant tell you) are really exciting :D

The future looks good. What does your future hold?

Update #11 - CSM

With Council of Stellar Management due to leave office on April 6th, it's almost time for the candidacy period for CSM6 to open up. The dates for the next election period are as follows:

  • February 9th to 23rd – Candidacy application period opens
  • March 2nd – Publication of the list of approved candidates
  • March 9th – Voting opens
  • March 23rd – Voting closes
  • March 30th – Results announced
  • April 6th – CSM 6 takes office
  • April 2012 – CSM 7 takes office
When applying for candidacy in CSM6, we will require that at least a basic campaign message stating what you are campaigning for and/or who you are representing is provided.

So there are only a couple of changes to the CSM application process. you will now need to provide a message stating what you are campaigning for and who you represent. this will make it easier for voters to identify the candidates. The other change is to with the schedule and will result in a reduction of the amount of time between the publication of the list of approved candidates and the beginning of the voting period.

If you have not already tried the new PI interface (which is quite different) this guide will get you up and running in no time at all.

In other news, the corp i just joined is at war in high sec. Pretty much what happened was the alliance didnt want our corp in the alliance any more but never kicked us. the alliance was falling apart so Merciless reckoning asked our CEO to form a new alliance with them. We agreed. Our CEO sent over 350mill to start the alliance and left the previous alliance. As soon as we had left, Merciless reckoning declared war on us. Most of our players aren't that experienced at pvp however the people who war decced us are. Isnt that great :)

What I wonder is, were merciless reckoning ever going to form a new allaince with us or had they planned that as a way to get our isk and kick us out at the same time. Also one of our players killed one of them and then they were bitching about it. So maybe they thought since we were mostly care bears they could steel our isk, kick us out and get some easy kills.

Fly safe, Dont war dec people for no reason.

Rifter Rampage #1 - In The Beginning

In The Beginning...

 ...I created an alt.

Mysterious Alt

I have decided to make one of the characters on my main account into a solo PVP alt. His name will remain unknown but I am going to post every few days about how he is going. I will include a record of how much isk I spend and the skills I train. I am calling this series of posts Rifter Rampage because the first solo ship I am going to learn to use (and train for) will be a rifter. Below is the fitting I am going off, so I know what skills I need to train.

I have given the character 15mill which I am going to make last for as long as possible. I am going to try and spend as little as possible the whole time and see how much isk it costs and how long it takes to train a character to be able to pilot a rifter properly.

ISK SPENT:
minmatar frigate - 36 000
small projectile turret - 18 000
motion prediction - 54 000
mechanic - 18 000
hull upgrades - 54 000
repair systems - 27 000
weapon upgrades - 70 000

Total: 277 000

That should do us till next time.

SKILLS
trained since last post (I started training at 8pm on the 22/1/2011):

minmatar frigate - 3
mechanic - 3
hull upgrades - 3
gunnery -3

To Train for next post:
hull upgrades - 4
repair systems - 3
small projectile turret - 2
motion prediction - 2
+ whatever else I can fit in

Kill That Carrier

Since Kirith announced the event I had planned on going in with a couple of corp mates activating a full rack of smart bombs and trying to damage as many people as possible (including kirith). We were all going to fly in and do something like this:

So I log on two hours before the event and corp chat is empty. great... the Ninveah channel says there is an attackers channel and a defenders channel already set up so since I dont have anyone to talk to I pop over to them and say hello in both. I get an immediate response in the defenders channel and no response from the attackers for quite some time so I decide it would be wise to become a defender.

With an hour to go I head over to Teshkat in my pvp drake, Spanking Machine |, and a few of us go in together, meeting the rest of the defense fleet outside the station. Everyone practices targeting BC'ed targets and some other stuff then the time comes and we all warp to kirith.

Following this is a mad killing frenzy which I missed out on a bit because Eve voice kept kicking me out and I couldn't hear any orders lol. I managed to get on two kill mails in that time then the FC broadcast a NOIR. guy (noir. were also defending kirith) who I locked up and shot at. immediately after that Noir. locked me up and killed me. I was pretty annoyed but now I understand it had been a misunderstanding that had been resolved but I hadnt heard it because Eve voice had yet again decided to kick me out!

I warp around for 15mins waiting off my GCC then finally when its finished I run to the nearest system that is selling a drake and some missiles. I reconnected to voice comms then and heard that Noir. and our fleet had won and we could now attack kirith. I quickly bought a drake, 7 heavy missile launchers and 5k scourge fury heavy missiles and got back as fast as I could. Unfortunately this was not fast enough and someone yelled "I see hull damage!" just as I was jumping in. I warped to the FC and sure enough Kirith's chimera and his pod were already dead.

That didnt really bother me too much though because some other people (not sure who they were?) started locking us up and we killed em :) I got on 2 more killmails before their reinforcements arrived and I just warped out with 4% hull left. feww the Spanking Machine || survived!

EDIT: here is the finished video of the night, made by kirith: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1101/BMTHOKK.wmv

Thanks Kirith, That was awesome fun!

Carrier kill mail

Who wants a carrier kill mail? mmhmm, well read the following, quoted from the Inner Sanctum of the Ninveah:

When: Jan 17th, 9pm EST (0200 eve time on Jan 18th)

What: Chimera on a planet or belt in a low sec system (to be announced on Jan 10th) for at least 30 minutes or until dead.

Why: Celebrating 6 years of blogging and upcoming 2000 posts

Who: You and anyone else that shows up.

How: I'll warp to a celestial (no station or gate) in a system to be announced next week and tell everyone in local and the Ninveah channel where I am. Then they can come to shoot or support me. I will fight back but will not warp away for 30 minutes.

So get your shit together while there's time. Get your corp mates into a fleet and go smash this chimera!!!

My Great Escape

This is a response to "what's your greatest escape story?" by "A Merry Life and a Short One". The original post can be found here.

I'm sitting on the gate, aligned to the pos and killing some high bounty rats in my drake. The gate fires and a red pops up in local. Instead of doing the logical thing and warping straight to the pos, what do I do? Yea greed takes over an I say to myself "screw the red, I have time for one more rat" The red has now decloaked in their Phobos (Gallante heavy interdictor) and is burning for me. At that time I didn't know a HIC was able to scram at extreme range. I was over confident an thought I could warp away before he could get a scram on me seeing as he was 35km's away. I'm almost done with the rat and the reds still ages away (33km). Now all of a sudden he yellow boxes. Then red boxes. Then that little symbol that I've always dreaded appears next to his ship in the overview, "what. The. Fuck. He has me scrammed from 30km!"
I get a cold chill as local Spikes with 3 more reds an the gate flashes 3 times in quick succession.

I'll quickly add, we had just made the trip out to 0.0 escorting our corp's orca with our pos in it so we were all in bs / bc's an we were all fitted with ECM drones in case we hit a red fleet so the orca could get out.

Ok now on with the story.

The Three reds that jumped through were all in drakes an decloaked on the other side of the gate, about 40km away. They all red box instantly and there heavy missiles hurt.

*Warning bells go off reminding me that my shields are almost gone.*

I launch my ECM drones at the Phobos hoping to throw off its lock. The drakes almost immediately go from red to yellow and my drones start taking damage. I am forced to recall them when two go pop. Damn, I thought ECM drones would work.

*Again the warning siren sounds as i go into low armour.*

there's nothing I can do. My drones don't work and all my Corp mates are busy. There's just a couple of alliance guys coming from 10 jumps out.

*I'm in structure now and it's disappearing. Fast!*

Holy fuck this is my last chance! I launch the last three ECM drones and I'm yelling all sorts of shit to get them to jam the Phobos. Come on, come. On!

*Half structure*

Come on... Then bam! The phobos's lock drops, and I'm away. Warping to the pos an letting out a huge sigh of relief.

P.s sorry to the 5 ECM drones that died to save me. It was for the greater good I swear!

Reassesing Goals

one quick announcement before i get into this post:

I am going to start posting once a week with fiction / random post ect. and at least once a week i will post an update of all the stuff that is happening to do with eve whether it be competitions you need to enter or a dev blog worth reading (although you can check the side bar to the right, under "devblogs" where all the latest dev blogs are listed).

and now the post:

So i was thinking, what are my goals in eve? And I realised that i don't actually have any! When I started playing eve my goal was to fly one of the big ships, like a carrier. i looked up at those mighty hulls and thought they would be bring me joy. So now i am at that point, i bought myself a chimera (you can see my guide about them here) and it isnt everything i thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, i love it! it is my favorite ship that i have flown in the game so far and i love how the wallet blinks every 10mill but that alone doesnt make me want to log in because i dont have anything i am really working towards.

The chimera just hasn't quenched my hunger (or is that thirst? i don't even know if pod pilots eat food! but we definitely drink vodka) and i am still looking for bigger and better things. Or is it? and thats when i realised, in going straight for the big guns i have missed out a lot of the smaller ships. I "can" fly them, just never done it. So my next step in the wild world of Eve is going to be small ship pvp and i have bought a one just for the occasion.

Yep the onyx. Man that is a sweet ass hunk a' metal! its got around 120k effective hit points, a warp disruption field generator and! crap thats all i can think of right now lol. Since i got the onyx i have flown it in 2 gangs but didn't get any kills and i have done 2 gate camps and guess what? no kills... I think its because pvp is much more time consuming than PVE. If I'm doing a sanctum its east to just recall my drones and warp to a pos when i need to take a break. In pvp you don't really have such luxuries. A pvp roam (well one that you actually get kill in) can take 3 hours and you might be deep in enemy territory so you cant just up and leave. I am still going to try and get in as many fleets as i can and i am going to join a gate camp as we speak (wish me luck).

Oh BTW check out this standard buffer tanked onyx for fleets: Fleet onyx with buffer

chaos descends - part 2

large POS, two Orca's, over one million square meters of minerals, same with ship equipment. six hulks, three battleships, over fifteen PVP ships, and yes, we got every single thing out to high sec or sold it and all within two days :)

Southern cross coalition, the corp i am in is getting good at these moves. the first move to o.o we did was with the alliance Immotalis Militis Invictus, into scalding pass. we suffered quite a few losses and there were always red fleets roaming around or camping our systems. The alliance had no structure, so we packed up and left.

We moved an orca with a pos in it across four regions to our next home in insmother. This is where we join Consortium. We don't do too badly in insmother actually. i made a couple of billion isk from ratting and plexing. It was also in insmother that i got my first kill since i started playing again. while it wasn't amazing, it was a start.

My alt was sort of forgotten for a while. i safed her up in our home system in her hulk and just hoped my corp mates still out there would find a wormhole. They did. I was asleep. The next day i find out everyone in my corp is out of o.o, that was a frightening moment. I really thought i was going to have to make the 19 jump trip down to n-rael and i would certainly die if i did. The hulk has a max speed of 80m/second for gods sake, my battleship can align faster!

But lucky for me our corp had made good friends with M.I.A, a corp in our alliance. One of their members "joey2cool" gave me a set of bookmarks and told me to go through the wormholes to empire. I have been so lucky lately. I didnt lose anything, not one single thing in this scramble back to high sec!

Chaos descends... Atlas fails...

A week ago C-J6MT was under siege. There was around 2000 pilots all up in local, mostly mother ships, dreadnoughts and Carriers with various support ships. So what happened your asking? Well, according to CCP, the battle came to an end due to "spacial disturbances", yeah right CCP, its called LAG!
Atlas takes it back the next day and at this point im thinking we might stay out here. until...

All hell breaks loose. C-J, EUU and SN9 were been hit by the reds with a cap fleet of over 17 mother ships. All our SBU's in the area are down, and guess what. this all happened between 10pm when i logged off and 10am the next day when i logged in. Yes, Consortium and atlas and Recon all manage to fail their asses off in the space of 12 hours.

When i log in this message is here to greet me:

*URGENT* Effective Immediately!!!! Evacuation
Consortium. Members,
Atlas is stuck defending C-J,  RECON is stuck in EUU, and now we have reds dropping SBUs all in our space..... this space will fall.... SO, move what you can out... Dont let this shit get you down.. This is part of EvE and living in 00.. Its always changing.. Well get a new home and very possibly come out better because of it...

"this space will fall...."
Real positive. your not even going to try?

"we will get a new home and very possibly come out better because of it..."
Very promising guys!

"Atlas is stuck defending C-J,  RECON is stuck in EUU, and now we have reds dropping SBUs"
Well done Atlas! hope you had fun twiddling your thumbs while all your systems were stolen :)

===

Its action time. i jump into my raven and gather my most prized possessions into my cargo hold. Before the hold doors slam shut my main thrusters are roaring.
I quickly Convo my online corp mates, "im leaving in five, join me at 5c if you want to get your ships out".
I have confirmation from everyone within a few seconds,
"OMW, bringing a badger" Poisyn replies.
"ill come" Aurelilio puts in.
"im bringing a neutralizing  pvp domi" says Auliliae as he logs in and sees the the eve mails i just read.

now more people are logging on and its taking longer to get everyone to 5c as more people are joining my fleet. I'm tempted to leave now and get myself safe but i couldn't leave my corp mates stranded out here.

finally we are all here, except Auliliae who is in the next system trying to get eyes on a red.
 "align CR2",
"ok warp CR2, a friendly fleet is scaring the red down the pipe" i add after a few seconds conversation with the fleet FC.

Its a wonderful sight, seeing all the ships engage there warp drives and power away, blue flame thrusting them through the universe. we land on the gate and all jump through, rippling the space where our ships had been. On the other side there is the red. just sitting there!

"stay cloaked, do not move!"
The red was in a vagabond, the minmatar heavy assault ship. He could kill Poisyn's badger in one shot if he uncloaked. we were pushing the limits, any second and our ships would be visible. All of a sudden he warps off. I let out a sigh of relief.
"From now i will warp us as a fleet" i say, then add "Aulil, meet us at the next gate".

In the next system we can see the same red in local but he is not in sight. "align outgate, warping.. also guys jump on contact, i want to outrun this red" i tell my fleet as our warp drives slow and we approach the gate the last few meters before once again jumping to the next system.

the trip was a total of 19 jumps. we had 2 left when something went wrong. the last few gates i had warped us to planets to get out of line with any drag bubbles that could be on the gates but this gate had bubbles situated behind it so there was no escape and as we warped into the gate there was that sickening lurch as we traveled an extra 60km past the gate and into the bubble with two drakes waiting!

i jumped into action. "approach the gate.  the two drakes are attacking me but i can outrun them"

"sir i have a bookmark 200km above the gate" says morde
"ok, guys just keep calm. morde warp up there when your out of the bubble. everyone else warp to morde when he he gets there". My shields are on 50% but the drakes are just out of warp scrambling range.
"warp to me" morde says as he reaches his bookmark.
i quickly select him and warp the fleet. My raven is taking to long to align! i don't think im going to make it. And just as the drakes come into range to scram me my warp drive engages with a roar. We are now all sitting 200km above the gate with the drakes below us. i warp us as a fleet down to the gate and we all spam
the jump button as the drakes try and nudge us off gate. Today is our lucky day. the space behind us ripples and the drakes are left alone as we jump to safety and warp away.

hope you enjoyed the read :)
